I bought this Melissa and Doug sand toy (Cupcake Maker) along with two others by Melissa and Doug, the Cookie Maker and the Ice Cream Cone Maker, for my daughter's 4th birthday. These sand toys are awesome! I bought a sand/water table by Little Tykes (the one with the green umbrella) and filled both sides, the sand and water side, with sand. I added just the right amount of water to make perfect sand for building. I put four little chairs around the sand table and my 4 children, ages 4, 7, 10, and 12 all love playing in this sand "box" (table actually). I tried out the sand toys myself and found so many different and creative ways to use them. I highly recommend this sand toy along with the other ones by Melissa and Doug. For those of you who are confused as to the purpose of the little icing utensil, it is used to "decorate" the cupcakes. I purchased the Sunny Patch cupcake, cookie and ice cream sets for a recent beach vacation. My 3 and 5 year old daughters loved them! Each set has some great playthings and some that didn't get much use.
In the cupcake set, one daughter used the four cupcake molds to serve as "cups" for the scoops of ice cream she created from the ice cream set (though she also offered cones as an option for her customers). My younger daughter used the cupcake "tin" to create four cakes which she then turned out onto the cookie sheet from the cookie set. The sprinkle can (that came with the cookie set and the ice cream set) was a hit with both girls and I was glad to have two! These toys are well made and durable and will be enjoyed by my girls for many years.

As with most Melissa and Doug products, this set is very durable and made with quality materials...unlike most beach sets you'll find. I purchased the cookie, cupcake, and ice cream sets as well as the nesting pails. All are great. They provided hours of fun and creativitiy. I am sure they will last a very long time.
